1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device when you visit a website. Similar technologies include local storage, session storage and pixel tags. Together they let a site remember choices, keep forms secure and, where permitted, measure how pages are used. This policy covers all of these technologies and forms part of our Privacy Policy.
2. Our approach
We use as few cookies as the service allows. We do not run advertising networks, we do not sell data, we do not use cross-site tracking pixels from social platforms, and we do not fingerprint devices. Analytics, where enabled, is aggregate and set only after you consent.
3. Categories we use
Strictly necessary
Required to deliver the website you requested — page routing, form security and storing your consent choice. These cannot be switched off through our banner because the site cannot function correctly without them. No consent is required for this category under applicable law.
Functional
Remember preferences you have set, such as reduced motion or display options. Disabling them means the site works, but forgets your choices between visits.
Analytics
Help us understand which chapters are read, where readers stop and which pages need rewriting. Set only with your consent, IP addresses are truncated before storage, and data is never used to identify an individual.
Advertising
We do not use advertising or marketing cookies. If that ever changes, we will update this policy, re-ask for consent before setting anything, and describe each cookie in the table below.

5. Consent
Where consent is required, non-essential cookies are not set until you give it. Consent is requested through a banner offering equally prominent accept and reject options, with no pre-ticked boxes and no consequence for declining — the guidebook remains fully readable either way. Your choice is recorded for twelve months, after which we ask again. You can change or withdraw consent at any time using the cookie preferences link in the site footer.
6. Managing cookies in your browser
All major browsers let you view, block and delete cookies through their settings, and offer private browsing modes that discard them at the end of a session. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may prevent forms from submitting. Instructions are published by each browser vendor under their privacy or security settings documentation.
We honour Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals where your browser sends them, treating them as a valid opt-out of non-essential processing.
7. Third-party content
We embed as little third-party content as possible. Where a map or media embed is added in future, it will be loaded only after you consent, and the provider's own cookies will be described here before it goes live.
8. Changes to this policy
We review this policy whenever we change our technology stack, and at least annually. The revision date above shows the current version. Material changes are announced on the Site.
